Policy Practitioners are people who, as a substantial part of their work, are involved in the following public policy functions:

  • Identifying problems/issues
  • Conducting research, reviews and evaluations
  • Undertaking policy analysis
  • Developing strategies
  • Setting strategic directions for a department or agency
  • Gathering data, preparing statistical reports, developing indicators and analyzing trends focused on public policy issues
  • Consulting with the public
  • Developing discussion papers, options papers, briefing notes, cabinet papers, and other documents designed for different stages in public policy development
  • Providing advice to government on public policy issues
