Policy Practitioners are people who, as a substantial part of their work, are involved in the following public policy functions:
- Identifying problems/issues
- Conducting research, reviews and evaluations
- Undertaking policy analysis
- Developing strategies
- Setting strategic directions for a department or agency
- Gathering data, preparing statistical reports, developing indicators and analyzing trends focused on public policy issues
- Consulting with the public
- Developing discussion papers, options papers, briefing notes, cabinet papers, and other documents designed for different stages in public policy development
- Providing advice to government on public policy issues
